Jason Zweig: The First Line Of Investing Defense? You

FYI: The push to require stockbrokers to act in their clients’ best interest is turning into a turf war.

The Securities and Exchange Commission, after years of study, should complete new regulations later this year. But several states, no longer willing to wait and see what those rules will look like, are already moving on their own.

As the brokerage industry, state regulators and the SEC duke it out, your own skeptical vigilance will remain your best defense
