The Closing Bell: U.S. Stocks Mixed on Earnings, Trade Concerns
FYI: U.S. stocks flipped between gains and losses Thursday as investors continued to weigh corporate earnings reports and concerns about the global economy.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 22 points, or 0.9%, to 24553, after closing slightly higher Wednesday. The S&P 500 finished up 0.14%, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 0.68 %. Gains in technology and energy stocks in the S&P 500 were offset by declines in consumer-staples shares.
Worries about trade were in the spotlight again Thursday. Stock futures turned lower after Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said in an interview with CNBC that the U.S. is “miles and miles” from a trade deal with China, a conflict that has rattled financial markets in recent months.
Eight of the eleven of the S&P 500 Sectors, led by Technology and Energy were in positive territory. Consumer Staples were down 1.45%. Regards, Ted
