Gas Prices Plummet

FYI: While falling stock prices have provided a beat down to the values of Americans’ 401ks in the fourth quarter of 2018, falling prices at the pump have added a little bit of a cushion to their wallets. Through yesterday, the national average price of a gallon of gas was just under $2.30, which is down from just under $3 a gallon back around Memorial Day weekend. That’s the lowest national average price since the Summer of 2017.

  • Went under $2 yesterday in my backyard.
  • Still $3.25 at the cheapest around here. (ARCO, cash only, is the cheapest.)

$2.19 in northern MI. Very rare. Especially with so much of that being tax. Guess better top off the 30 gal. tank on the old pickup tomorrow and forget about that 70 dollar rebate card - if’n it ever comes.

Went through the “gas wars” in the Detroit area in the 70s. Got down to 25 cents cents on some street corners. But the thing is, when the oil companies got together and colluded (unfortunate choice of words here) the price everywhere would spike overnight. Might go from 35 cents to 95 cents in just an hour or so. Kinda expecting that kind of action now.
