FYI: Out of the cockpit canopy, my peripheral vision captures the distinctively rounded wings of possibly the most famous aircraft type of all time, the Spitfire.
The last of these iconic 1940s fighter planes was built much more than half a century ago, but a new industry has grown up to restore survivors to the air and give the well-heeled public a taste of what it was like to fly and fight them. There is even, for pilots with enough time and money, the opportunity to learn to fly a rare and valuable single-seater.
