The Breakfast Briefing: Dow Futures Drop 150 Points As Stock Market Extends Rout
FYI: U.S. stock futures Wednesday fell anew, putting the S&P 500 in position for a sixth decline in a row, as concerns about rising corporate costs and a global economic slowdown buffeted Wall Street.
Investors also were set to digest a fresh round of earnings reports in a busy week for quarterly corporate results.
Global stocks were mixed Wednesday, with European shares shrugging off weak trade in Asia after a session of dramatic swings Tuesday that tested investors’ nerves.
The Stoxx Europe 600 was up 0.2%. In Asia, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and South Korea’s Kospi both dropped 0.4%, while China’s Shenzhen A Share index fell 0.2%. Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average rose 0.4%.
Equity markets from the U.S. to Asia have been battered in October on rising geopolitical tensions and concerns that recent strong corporate earnings growth would soon come to the end.
