Investors had convinced themselves that a strong U.S. economy, juiced by tax cuts and other fiscal stimulus, could offset higher interest rates, the impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs, and slowing growth elsewhere around the world.
Here’s Why More Scares Are Ahead for the Stock Market

That had allowed the S&P 500 to return 11% during the first nine months of 2018, even as the remainder of the world’s stocks fell more than 5%.
