The Breakfast Briefing: Stocks Drop As Hopes For A Trade Truce Fade

FYI: Global stocks mostly headed lower Monday as tensions over tariffs remained front and center for investors after China canceled trade talks with the U.S.

Futures markets pointed to a 0.1% opening loss for the S&P 500. The Stoxx Europe 600 slipped 0.3%, despite energy companies posting gains as Brent crude oil prices jumped above $80 per barrel.

Stock indexes across the Asia-Pacific declined, though markets in China, Japan and South Korea were closed for public holidays.
