No, The Financial Crisis Didn’t Spawn Populism

FYI: Two defining events of the last decade were the financial crisis and the rise of right-wing populists like Donald Trump. Many believe that the first caused the second.

In “Crashed,” historian Adam Tooze’s ambitious new history of the last decade, there is a direct line connecting them: “Overshadowed by memories of 2008, the 2016 election delivered a stark verdict.

  • I assert that Trump is no populist. He's an oligarch. Decades ago, the US government got in bed with Big Money, but it's the rest of us that are taking it in the shorts.
Populism= support for the concerns of ordinary people.
Oligarch = a very rich business leader with a great deal of political influence.
Oligarchy= a government in which a small group exercises control especially for corrupt and selfish purposes.

Is one political party better than the other in the Corporate State? Not really. The Dems. still pretend to care about the ordinary Joe or Jane Q. Public.

Actually, we now have an oligarchy that was very clever in masking itself as populism. Being well and truly duped, the innocents thought that they were getting something better than either the Democratic or Republican goon squads.
