FYI: Criticism of institutional investors’ “common ownership” of stocks is making the rounds in academic circles. Investors should hope this flawed argument that large institutions promote anticompetitive corporate behavior won’t gain much traction. But, if Congress is persuaded, it could push the Securities and Exchange Commission into action, and investment fund companies and individual shareholders would probably be the losers.
