Who Else is Playing with Pot?

Howdy folks,

Hope this finds you all well.

Took initial positions yesterday in the marijuana space with Aphria APHQF, Neptune NEPT and Cronos CRON. The other tempter is the ETF MJ however, the chart was boring as compared with the 'high' flyers.

http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/advchart/frames/frames.asp?nosettings=1&symb=mj&uf=0&type=64&size=3&sid=0&style=320&freq=1&entitlementtoken=0c33378313484ba9b46b8e24ded87dd6&time=6&rand=9849&compidx=aaaaa:0&comp=acbff,+aphqf,+cron,+tlry,+nept&ma=0&maval=9&lf=1&lf2=0&lf3=0&height=0&width=0&mocktick=1

Now of course, they went down after I made my wee purchase, but we'll see.

and so it goes,

peace,

rono

@rono; You beat me to the punch. it's high times for the ETFMG Alternative Harvest ETF (MJ). As of Aug. 28, MJ was the top-performing ETF over the past 30 days, rising a staggering 27.7%:

@Ted: OK, it's playtime. just bought 100 of MJ just for the hell of it. Be fun to watch. I sure do like these $4.95 trades!

    Thanks @rono. :)

  • Howdy folks,

Talk about a nose bleed stock/sector. Good grief.

    Update: Bought APHQF on 8/28 @ $10.92 added 9/10 @ $16.30.
    Bought CGC 9/5 @ $51.78
    Bought CRON 8/28 @ $11.46
    Bought NEPT 8/28 @ $3.81 sold 9/10 @ $3.85
    Bought TLRY (100) 9/4 @ $77.20 added (20) 9/13 @ $122.39 added (30) 9/26 @$111.36

Due to TLRY, I'm positive of course.

A side note about nosebleeds. Wifey and I were on a Viking river cruise down the Rhine. Cruising through the Middle Rhine (UNESCO World Heritage site), it was high 70's and sunny, we were sipping a local Riesling while Mozart played in the background. That evening I learned TLRY was up 60%. It was a good day.

Now I've played this game for a few years. I've hit a Homerun with Silver Wheaton now SMP and a Triple with F. However I have never had a stock pop 60%. Alas and alack, by the time we got to the Netherlands, it had given most of it back.

    and so it goes,

    peace,

  • That cruise is the best kind of high. Keep your feet planted grunt.

I’m a “newbie” to pot. Trying to find the right spot for some within my allocation model.
Which sleeve would it best fit? Thanks for any thoughts.

  • Howdy hank,

Geez, I'd have to put into growth but fairly crazy growth. This is sort of a casino play for me.

That said, it has both the fundamentals AND the technicals going for it, so what' not to like?

    take care,

    peace,

    rono
  • I agree with rono Hank. High-risk, fun money, gamble.
  • Who Else is Playing with Pot?
I believe "playing" describes it best !!

  • Thanks to TLRY I made a quick and dirty 1K on the MJ etf and got the hell out.

Appreciate the suggestions. I do know some here in Michigan who have what they call “grows” going on inside their homes. So growth makes sense. However, these “grows” are frequently the cause of B&Es. They really have to guard the stuff against theft. So I’m inclined to put it into real assets along with gold, art, rare coins, etc.

@OldJoe - You done well. You can send me your “buy recs” any time. My last successful gamble was in a Latin America fund about 3 years ago. Like you, I got out fast after it popped.

“Take the money and run” ain’t a bad philosophy.
