FYI: (Ignore the sector weighting at end of article for the American Century Fund, an error was made in formatting.)
Giri Devulapally is the sort of stock picker who makes many individual shareholders prefer active managers.
In charge of now-$14.9 billion JPMorgan Large Cap Growth Fund (SEEGX) for almost exactly 14 years, Devulapally has guided the growth stock portfolio to an 11.24% average annual gain in that span going into Thursday. The S&P 500 has averaged 9.2%. Large-cap growth funds tracked by Morningstar averaged 9.13%, and Devulapally's fund has outperformed 82% of them in that time.
So far this year alone, the fund has notched an 18.82% gain, topping 90% of its peer group, which altogether averaged a 12.27% return. The S&P 500 gained 6.41%. The fund's C-class shares (OLGCX), which charge a 1% deferred sales load, require just a $1,000 minimum initial investment.
