REITs Outperform Broader Market In Rising rate Environment
I suggest that since July of 2016 and or those who have made a purchase in the fall period of 2017; not much has been added to their money pot. The real estate area has found some support in the past few weeks; but I don't see a trend at this time, except to improve a negative return number. At this time, I would need to take a deep look into a particular fund offering and why it is investing in a particular real estate sector(s) to have faith.
Disclosure: We sold all of our long held FRIFX in the fall of 2017.
A timely addition from Sam Zell. You may judge, for yourself, some areas of the real estate market from his knowledge and understanding. 7 minute video. In particular, list to the section where he discussed his firm's purchase of another real estate company recently and the outcomes.
This caused me to look at a couple real estate funds I’ve either owned in the past (TRREX), or now own (OREAX).
I consider both decent funds. What surprised me was how close their YTD performance numbers are as of yesterday. Both in the red.
TRREX -5.80% OREAX -5.87%
Nothing significant here. Just weird how close those two happen to be this year. They usually diverge more.
- @Catch22 - I always enjoy hearing Sam Zell. He’s on Bloomberg TV occasionally. Can’t vouch for how smart he is (or isn’t) - but always enjoyable listening to him.
