FYI: 1928: Portfolio manager Walter Morgan founds the nations first balanced mutual fund, the Industrial and Power Securities Co., which invests in both stocks and bonds. Later renamed the Wellington Fund, it eventually forms the nucleus of the Vanguard Group of Investment Cos.
