FYI: This September I decided to go back to some classic books that I’d never gotten to or read when I was too young to appreciate them. I finished up with John Steinbeck’s East of Eden and I was just absolutely blown away by the scope of it, and all of the aspects of life and humanity it covered. It’s somewhat biographical and somewhat the story of his hometown, in the Salinas Valley of California. It’s a parable loosely based on the Cain and Abel story from Genesis. It is his masterpiece and he said that his entire life and career up until that point were essentially a preparation to write it.
Steinbeck goes far beyond the story he’s telling to make plain some very important, universal truths…

Ted
