Dear WEALTHTRACK Subscriber,

Over the next few weeks, we are looking back at some of the major investment themes of 2017 that will continue to impact the markets in 2018. One of the biggest ones frequently mentioned by our guests is market risk.

Richard Bookstaber, a leading expert on market risk had appeared on WealthTrack in 2007 to talk about his prescient and then new book, A Demon of Our Own Design: Markets, Hedge Funds, and the Perils of Financial Innovation, warning about the perils of the explosion of financial derivatives, some of which nearly took the financial system down in 2008 and 2009.

Bookstaber appeared on WealthTrack again this fall to warn about the new risks he sees in today’s increasingly complex markets, some created by the very remedies designed to fix the old ones. As Chief Risk Officer in the Office of the Chief Investment Officer for the $110 billion University of California Pension and Endowment portfolios one of his jobs is to identify emerging problems and figure out strategies to deal with them. He discussed which ones are at the top of his list and what he is doing differently as a result.

With the stock markets trading near record levels and cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin creating a global feeding frenzy how risky are the financial markets? For some much needed historical perspective we turned to financial historian Richard Sylla for a special web EXTRA.

If you’d like to hear Sylla before his interview becomes available on our website, it is available to our PREMIUM subscribers right now. Also, a reminder that WEALTHTRACK is available as a YouTube Channel, so if you are unable to join us for the show on television, you can watch it on our website, WealthTrack.com, or by subscribing to our YouTube Channel.

Have a great weekend, a happy start to Hanukkah and make the week ahead a profitable and a productive one.

Best Regards,

Consuelo
