Bonds Are From Venus; Stocks Are From Mars

FYI: Another day, another new high in the U.S. stock market: That’s pretty much been the story for the past year. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index SPX, +0.10% has registered 61 record highs since Donald J. Trump was elected president on Nov. 8, 2016, according to the Associated Press. Last week was an unusual down week for the stock market.

Whether it is the Trump administration’s business-friendly efforts to pare regulations, the anticipation of business tax cuts, or solid corporate earnings growth, the stock market is overflowing with optimism.

Over on planet Venus, the bond market will have none of it.

The yield on the benchmark Treasury 10-year note TMUBMUSD10Y, -0.15% is virtually unchanged from where it was two years ago, when the Federal Reserve’s benchmark rate was still at 0-0.25%
