Looking for funds that invest in Autonomies...and the offspring they own

edited July 2012 in Fund Discussions
Excerpt from link article:

“Nestlé is the new Treasury bond,” say GTI fund managers Iain Little and Bruce Albrecht.

"The Swiss giant is an outstanding example of the select group of multinationals that are so big, diversified, well-managed, successful and largely in control of their own destiny that they are comparable to nation-states. Of the 100 largest economies in the world, 51 are actually those of corporations, not countries."

"...David Fuller, the well-known London analyst, has dubbed such companies “Autonomies.” In an increasingly troubled world, they can be regarded as a separate investment class… and perhaps the most attractive."

First, what the heck is an autonomy?

  • get into a good EAFE fund such as Artisan.. you'll have plenty of solid consumer staples names there. and they are cheap too. DIA consist mostly of the "autonomies" domociled in US. over 60% of S&P500 companies derive their income internationally, with increasing share of demand coming from EMs.
