Stripping index funds of their voting rights or influence on corporate governance makes no sense. Those voting rights aren't just the funds' voting rights. They are the shareholders who own the funds voting rights by proxy. So taking the funds rights away is also taking away every index fund investors' rights. Instead, fund shareholders should begin insisting that their funds--index or active--vote more ethically.
