barron best bond fund

  • Thank you.

It's refreshing to hear from T. Rowe Price that their investment objectives include, "our focus is on performance, not gathering assets," as they closed their high yield bond fund recently.

Nevertheless the article focuses on the largest bond families and not on other skillful bond managers which may benefit the readers.

Link led to Google and than clicked "Best Bond Fund" article. After a glimpse, was obscured by Barrons ad for IPad subscription. No thanks. Tried that year ago & was impossible to unsubscribe despite repeated phone calls & emails. Finally had to have the bank pull the credit card and re-issue new one. Would enjoy their take on bond funds. Mine would be that much is dependent on the amount of risk one is willing to take in return for yield and also the direction and level of rates in the next 1 - 10 years. The outlook is dour would say. Not without bonds however. Guessing we got about 35% in balanced or hybrid type funds which do hold bonds. Also, couple international funds. Have some in PRHYX & been slowly trimming. However, consider junk as closer to equities than to Treasuries on the spectrum. Wondered if they mentioned DODIX where hold a tad. Fine fund - lagging because they're very underweight Treasuries and other top tier bonds, thinking the meager returns not worth the risk. BTW, my best recommendation re bonds would be to refinance your mortgage (w cash out) at around 3% for as long a term as comfortable with. Invest proceeds or buy yourself something nice. Folks eager to give ya their $$ in return for next to nothing? Take em up on it! Call it "making lemonade out of lemons." (-: FWIW
