FYI: Just as there’s always a bull market somewhere on the planet, there’s always a place where the bears roam free. The Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index rose 9.3% in the first half of this year, and the international MSCI EAFE index jumped 11.8%.
But some funds and ETFs managed to post losses – and not just the ones you’d expect, such as the first half’s biggest loser, the leveraged ProShares Ultra VIX Short-term Futures ETF (UVXY), which clawed a 77.7% loss from investors. Fully 722 funds and ETFs posted a loss in the first half. Let’s enjoy a moment of schadenfreude and look at these bets that turned bad.
