Is It Time To End The Active Vs. Passive Debate?

FYI: What's your answer to the decades-old question: Can you beat the market?

That's at the heart of the active vs. passive investing debate, which remains a hot topic as the two sides duke it out over which is better. Simply put, the pro-active camp says active managers can make a difference; the passive side says it's best to invest in passively managed funds that track an index.

Though the jury is still out, money continues to flow out of active and into passive funds. Investors withdrew $16.8 billion out of U.S. equity mutual funds and ETFs in April and poured $17.1 billion into passively managed U.S. equity funds, according to Morningstar Inc.
