FYI: Nowadays, with exchange-traded funds dominating the market, you no longer hear mutual-fund executives bragging that “Our industry, unlike the rest of Wall Street, has never had a major scandal.” But, back in the 1990s, they used to say that all the time. To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the mutual fund, back in 1999, I decided to investigate the historical record.
