Thinking back over the years this is a sector that my late father invested a good percentage of his assets in as he favored utility stocks over bonds in general. He felt, utility stocks offered something bonds in general did not offer ... the power to grow the dividned.
Even today, I am heavy in utilities, by better than three times, compared to their weighting in the S&P 500 Index. As a matter of fact, I am heavy in all of the big three defensive sectors (utilities, health care, and consumer staples) plus communication services, energy and real estate. I tend to go where yield can be found.
