Fund Manager Focus: David Marcus, Manager, Evermore Global Value Fund
FYI: (Click On Article title At Top Of Google Search) "Finding Value in European Conglomerates" David Marcus grew up on Long Island, where he learned about the markets from his stockbroker father and bought stock with money he earned sharpening ice skates. But his first big break came when he was a student at Northeastern University in Boston interning at a bank that provided back-office support for Mutual Series, an investment firm run by Michael Price. Marcus’ boss recommended him for an internship with the now legendary value investor, and soon after, Price offered him a job as an assistant on the firm’s trading... Doesn't look like M* even covers this "small fund" anymore? I had owned it briefly. But even, I never "got" this fund. I was attracted to the fact manager worked at Franklin Mutual. Then it also stopped being NTF at Scottrade. That was that.
So again, the chart of this fund since inception does not impress. I'm very impressed on the other hand how the fund has managed to attract half a billion almost in assets. I'm convinced in downturn this fund will be hit hard.
The only manager who still uses Michael Price's investment process is Peter Langerman of Franklin Mutual Discovery. Other former Mutual Series fund managers are nowhere nearly as successful as MP back in the 80 - 90's before he sold the firm to Franklin Templeton.
