John Levin, founder of New York–based Levin Capital Strategies, and Jack Murphy, a onetime management consultant, have practiced value investing for decades. They are exceptionally skilled at identifying catalysts for change, even among widely covered stocks, and their track record is excellent: Over the past five years, Transamerica Large Cap Value (ticker: TWQAX), a mutual fund they subadvise, has returned 15.7% a year, beating both the Standard & Poor’s 500 index and other large value funds.
