The Closing Bell: U.S. Stocks Rise As Investors Watch Central Banks

FYI: U.S. stocks pared modest gains Tuesday to remain marginally higher on the eve of a pair of major central-bank decisions.
Volatile oil prices pressured energy shares, limiting overall gains. The S&P 500 index SPX, +0.16% was up 2 points, or 0.1%, at 2,140. Health care and consumer staples were leading gains, while energy shares lagged behind, following oil prices lower.
