The typical U.S. investor has too little exposure to global investments, says Erik Davidson, chief investment officer of Wells Fargo Private Bank, which oversees $508 billion in assets for accounts of $5 million and up. He advises wealthy clients to tilt 30% of their portfolios toward global opportunities in all asset classes, including stocks, bonds, real estate, and commodities. U.S. investors, he says, typically have less than 15% of their portfolios in securities beyond our borders.
