How’s this for an alternative? Mutual funds. The defining feature of exchange-traded funds—the ability to trade throughout the day—shouldn’t factor into the selection process for hedge fund–like “liquid alternatives.” On the surface, the ease of trading of ETFs may make them appear even more liquid. But trading could do more harm than good
