FYI: (Click On Article Title At Top Of Google Search) "To This TIAA-CREF Fund Manager, the Little Things Matter"
In high school, Susan Kempler drew cartoons, usually featuring Peanuts or Disney characters, and sold them to adults looking for gifts for their children. “I paid a lot of attention to detail, talking with parents to find out what the child liked about the character. I was careful to include distinctive details of the character’s expressions, dress, and environment. To me, it was these subtleties that were the key to delighting children, so I really made an effort to capture them perfectly.”
Kempler is still detail-oriented. But instead of paying attention to getting the expression on Charlie Brown’s face just right, she focuses on money management and picking the best stocks for the $4.8 billion TIAA-CREF Growth & Income fund (ticker: TIIRX), which she has run since 2005.
