U.S.-Stock Funds End In The Red For Quarter

FYI: During this seven-year bull market, stock funds have done a good job of avoiding back-to-back quarterly declines. The second quarter will be the next test for that streak.

The average diversified U.S.-stock mutual fund was down 0.4% in the first quarter, even with gains in March that nearly—but didn’t quite—offset the plunges of early in the quarter, according to data from Thomson Reuters Corp. ’s Lipper unit. International-stock funds didn’t do any better, despite heavy inflows from investors; the category’s performance was down 1.7%.
