Eaton Vance Corp.'s NextShares experiment kicked off at the stock market's open on Friday with the first-ever exchange-traded mutual fund, which is already receiving some skeptical reviews.

Few securities firms have made changes necessary to support ‘exchange-traded managed fund’

Feb. 26, 2016 1:52 p.m. ET

Eaton Vance Corp. hasn’t signed any major securities firms to distribute its new breed of fund, even as the first “exchange-traded managed fund” began trading Friday.

Eaton Vance Stock NextShares, an actively managed fund with characteristics of both mutual funds and exchange-traded funds, is listed on Nasdaq under the symbol EVSTC.
