FYI: Value stock mutual funds with more than $100 million in assets outperformed growth funds for nearly the first two years of the past decade.

But since mid-2007, growth mutual funds began to chip away at value funds’ lead, except during the depths of the Great Recession in late 2008. That’s when investors sought safe havens in defensive stocks and funds, which mostly tend to be value-oriented
