Due Diligence On Smart Beta

FYI: (Click On Article Title At top Of Google Search)
Imagine an all-inclusive beach resort. Its price reflects airfare, all-day buffets, and, say, archery lessons. For investors, the analogue to a soup-to-nuts vacation is the market-cap weighted index exchange-traded fund: Neither is fancy, though both offer diversity at low-cost with straightforward expectations. Now imagine a time-share condominium. The condo is more elaborate, but comes with caveats: Timing is rigid, and getting out of the deal may cost a bundle. Like a timeshare, investors are getting the hard sell on complex index-tracking ETFs that fall under the umbrella term “smart beta.” Investors need to equip themselves with facts before diving into the fund industry’s next big thing.
