FYI: Having trouble keeping tabs on the flood of exchange-traded funds hitting the market?
That’s because last year’s ETF proliferation was unprecedented. Some 266 ETFs came to market last year, a number that tops 2007′s peak of 258, according to market research firm ETFGI. This number excludes exchange-traded notes, which trade intraday like ETFs but are actually debt instruments issued by banks. The Investment Company Institute contends that 2007 was the all-time high for new launches.
