Fund Focus: BlackRock Global Long/Short Fund

FYI: (Click On Article Title At Top Of Google Search) " BlackRock Uses Big Data For Big Gains"
Imagine being able to analyze every quarterly conference call for every publicly traded company, and instantly corroborate comments with Securities and Exchange Commission filings, press releases, or past reports. And instead of relying on surveys to gauge consumer sentiment, what if you could scrutinize online activity to see whether consumers were shopping for luxury goods or, conversely, seeking debt relief?

A decade ago, this was the stuff of science fiction. Yet, for the Scientific Active Equity, or SAE, investment group at BlackRock, the ability to collect and analyze data has given rise to a new kind of fundamental investing. Instead of kicking the tires on a restricted number of companies, the group uses big data to run detailed diagnostics on thousands of stocks around the globe. “We’ve essentially taken the fundamental process and updated it for the 21st century,” says Paul Ebner, 39, the lead manager of the $1.8 billion BlackRock Global Long/Short fund (ticker: BDMAX).
