Top Big-Cap Funds: Alger Spectra Rides Apple, Facebook

FYI: Large-cap mutual funds trail small- and midcap funds in 10-year performance. But large-cap funds are holding up better so far this year. A $10,000 investment in the average large-cap mutual fund on Sept. 30, 2005, would have grown to $19,354 by Nov. 13 this year. The same investment would have grown to $20,287 in the average midcap fund, $19,828 in the average small-cap fund and $20,394 in the S&P 500.
