German Engineering at Its Finest

edited September 2015 in The OT Bullpen
VW stock fell nearly 20% today on the scandals involving its diesel engines' emission components.

We don't have testing in most of the state. However, when living in the Detroit metro area nearly 20 years ago, a test was required. I do recall that some "inventive" mechanics at various shops had their own bag of tricks which insured that almost any old "clunker" would receive a passing grade.

I did watch a test being run once. The car was placed in neutral and the engine reved-up to very high RPMs for a minute or so with the sensors attached. A computer printed out the pass/fail certificate based on these readings. Certainy not your normal driving situation.
