"What is driving these non-VC investors to make a bet on the unicorns whose lofty valuations have the flare of another dot-com bubble? [...] mutual funds, hedge funds, and other non-VC investment managers are hoping to get to the front of the line for hot tech IPOs, particularly at a time when the recent market crash wiped out the U.S. stock market’s gains from earlier this year."
