The Stock Market's Worst Days: Some Perspective

FYI: Monday's stock market plunge was steep in terms of points, but the percentage drop was small.

The S&P 500 fell 77.68 points, but a relatively small 3.9%, notes Stock Trader's Almanac 2015, compiled by Jeffrey Hirsch.
Black Monday's stock market drop in 1987 was the biggest one-day percentage loss across all major indexes.

That's when the Dow Jones industrial average sank 22.06%, the S&P 500 20.5%, the Nasdaq Composite 11.4%, the Russell 1000 19% and the Russell 2000 12.5%.

Ted
