Why Wall Street traders are obsessed with Jesse Livermore

edited July 2015 in Off-Topic
Here is a little weekend reading about one of Wall Street's famed traders. His personal life was as much of a wild ride as his trading life.

From the article:

"This is the man who inspired "the trader's bible": Jesse Lauriston Livermore, the mold for Edwin Lefevre's "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator." Wall Street is obsessed with him. Livermore led a life of brilliance and excess, surrounded by mistresses, scandals, money, and bankruptcy. He was a legendary trader who played big and made millions during the crash of 1929."

  • The fact that traders are obsessed with this man who couldn't make a decent profit anymore once the SEC was created to regulate markets and ultimately killed himself because of his excesses says a lot more about the mentality of those who work on Wall Street today than it does about Livermore's "skills" as an investor.
