$37B. Why didn't they tell me? I'd have just written a check. Jesus, these amounts are mind-boggling. A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon yer talkin' real money! And of course, you recognize my use of the famous quote referring to (mere) MILLIONS of dollars. Was it Proxmire of Wisconsin who first said it? I forget.
  • A billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you're talking about real money.

House of Reps and Senator, Illinois, Everett Dirksen
  • FWIW, Humana is the most difficult insurer to deal with as a provider in southern AR. Specialists in my locale are refusing it more than any other. I'm opting out after December. Hope this doesn't mean Aetna plans to adopt their referral approval protocol.
  • Thanks, Catch. Of course.
  • I'm sure there is no way this couldn't be good for customers. lol.
  • @catch22: I've got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that you got correct the name of Everett Dirksen. The bad news is that he never made that statement.

  • "...The closest documented statement came at a joint Senate-House Republican leadership press conference on March 8, 1962, when Dirksen said, "The favorite sum of money is $1 billion – a billion a year for a fatter federal payroll, a billion here, a billion there." [EMD Papers, Republican Congressional Leadership File, f. 25] But the "and pretty soon you're talking real money" is missing."
Well, alright. Close enough for my purpose.
  • Hi @Ted
Yes, I've read that too before. At the least, I know I am one of a few of us on the board who know his name and part of his life.
