FYI: Below is a list of the top performing stocks in the Russell 3,000 year-to-date. Of the 3,000 stocks in the index, 18 are up more than 100%. The best performer in the index is Retrophin (RTRX), which is up 161%. In recent years past, there have been at least a couple stocks up more than 200% at this point in the year, but not this year. What is similar to recent years past is the sector makeup of the top performers. As you can see, 10 of the 12 best performing stocks year-to-date are Biotech/Health Care names.
