Jensen Fund Top Picks: 3M, Pepsi, DuPont and More

Some insights on their stock picking strategy that paid well in 2008's downturn...
The strategy has a good long-term track record, topping 93% of its peers over the past 15 years, according to Morningstar. More recently the fund has underperformed, averaging a 12.6% return over the past five years compared to 13.8% for the group. “We would argue that if you’re having strong double digit returns in five of the last six years and you didn’t blow up in 2007-2008, that’s the sweet spot,” says McIver. In 2008 the fund topped 98% of peers, losing 29% compared to a 41% loss for the category and a 37% loss for the Standard & Poor’s 500.
