ETF Market Vital Signs, May 4: No Quarter For Bonds

FYI: April brought about reversals in previously strong U.S. stocks and bonds. The dollar, too, took a U-turn last month. Over two days in May, stocks bounced back but it’s been no quarter for bonds. The iShares Shares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT) has dropped almost 5% over the past six trading sessions. Energy ETFs including the SPDR S&P Oil & Gas Exploration and Production (XOP) fell sharply on heavy volume after Greenlight Capital’s David Einhorn warned investors today to avoid oil-fracking stocks. All eyes are on Friday’s April jobs report, which will generate much tea-leaf reading related to the Federal Reserve’s potential to raise interest rates.

Ted
