FYI: Apple’s earnings report last night was nothing short of extraordinary and with all the numbers it is easy to overlook just how impressive these figures are. Of all the metrics, though, AAPL’s cash and investments hoard is perhaps the most mind-blowing of them all. As of the end of Q1, the company held $33 billion in cash and short-term investments and $160.4 billion in long-term investments. At a combined total of $194 billion, AAPL’s hoard of cash and liquid investments is larger than the market cap of most S&P 500 companies! Also, as pointed out on Twitter last night, the company’s portfolio of liquid investments is $75 billion larger than the PIMCO Total Return Fund!
