John Waggoner: Three rare fund species For All climates

FYI: Here, even the beetles are gorgeous. So it's not surprising that when someone once asked the British biologist J.B.S. Haldane what one could learn about the creator from the study of creation, his answer was, "An inordinate fondness for beetles." After all, scientists have discovered more than 400,000 species of beetles.
If we were to ask an economist what we can discover about finance from the study of the financial world, the answer would probably be, "An inordinate fondness for mutual funds." Morningstar counts nearly 30,000 mutual funds in its database, assuming you count each annoying share class separately.
