FYI: Today, investors were disappointed by earnings reports from the likes of Microsoft, Caterpillar and Procter & Gamble to name a few. The Dow sold off on the news -- down 1.65% on the day. One significant contributor to the disappointing earnings reports was the surging strength of the dollar which makes it more difficult for multinational corporations to sell their products overseas. For some perspective, today's chart illustrates the trend of the US dollar index over the past 20 years.
