To keep track of all the data, we compile a list of every single company that reports, how its numbers came in versus estimates, and how the stock price reacted on the day of the report. From our master database, below is a list of the stocks that have reacted the most positively to their earnings reports this season. (For stocks that report before the open, we look at that day's change. For stocks that report after the close, we look at the next day's change.)
As shown, City National (CYN) has had the best one-day reaction to earnings this season with a gain of 18.92%. Infinera (INFN) ranks a close second with a gain of 18.54%, followed by Netflix (NFLX) in third at +17.34%. Just three other stocks have seen double-digit percentage gains on earnings this season -- Janus Capital (JNS), WNS and PetMed Express (PETS).
A few other notable winners this season include Taiwan Semi (TSM), Southwest Air (LUV), Delta Air (DAL), eBay (EBAY), Schlumberger (SLB), Starbucks (SBUX) and United Continental (UAL). The airlines have reacted very positively to their reports this quarter.
