FYI: Energy sector mutual funds are among the top three performing sectors of the past 15 years, but they taken a serious hit since June. A $10,000 investment in the average energy fund on Sept. 30, 1999, would have grown to $41,796 by Dec. 12 this year, according to Morningstar Inc. data.
