FYI: The average dividend mutual fund has outperformed the S&P 500 in the past 15 years. Look what a $10,000 investment in the average dividend fund on Sept. 30, 1999, would have grown to by Dec. 10 this year: $26,484. The same investment in the S&P 500, a proxy for the broad stock market, would have trailed with $21,059, according to Morningstar Inc. data.
